{1 \over \sqrt{2 \pi}} \sum_{j=-\infty}^{\infty} e^{-j^2/2} = 1.0000000053505759+

P.S. Your professor's name reminds me that in Samuel R. Delany's partial autobiography, The Motion of Light in Water, he relates that the first fan letter he ever received upon the publication of The Jewels of Aptor was one "unmasking" him as a pseudonym for A.E. Van Vogt. The stated reasons were two-fold:

1. Samuel Delany has 'slan' in it.
2. The letter-writer was familiar with every SF writer then working, and had never heard of Delany before.
