- Abstract Algebra, Dummit & Foote. This is the only one I said I was going to read. ("Introduction to Module Theory")
- Percolation, Grimmett. Prof. Slade offered to discuss this with me. (Chapter 2)
- Representation Theory: A First Course, Fulton and Harris. yey (Chapter 3)
- Introduction to Algebraic Curves, Griffiths. Because Prof. Bryan gave it back to the library so I could read it. Also the math is pretty neat!
Percolation is pretty neat, and sure enough 419 was pretty good preparation for it, although I should familiarize myself with the proof of martingale convergence, which I forget. I am saving the subadditive convergence lemma for later to tempt me to read more of the book. :D
In Representation Theory I am only at the finite group stuff and it's still pretty hard. Can you die of representation theory of Lie groups? Scientists say yes! (In 424 we talked about this and Prof. Bryan said something like, "Of course it all boils down to this," and drew the Dynkin diagram (the colors are just there to make it pretty - he drew the row of seven dots and then put in the protruding one carefully so as not to have it sticking out of the wrong place). There was some skeptical laughter. But that doodle seriously really does have Deep Meaning. I think.)
