Sep. 7th, 2006 12:26 pmHallo. I am writing from Iowa City. This is the third day I've been here. It is to be hoped that Dad and Liz will show up today, tho the flight is long, so it will probably be late when they arrive. Our flight was unusually long, since we were delayed for an hour and a half in O'Hare. I started a game of Cave Story on the flight to O'Hare, played it while we were waiting at the airport, and beat it last night (mediocre ending).
Lots of things have happened! Grandpa's funeral is on Sunday, and earlier today we went and bought me an expensive suit to wear to it. Since I have no formal clothes at all, we also got shoes, an undershirt, socks.... The look is very "snappy".
We are staying at Grandma's house, with Mary Simmons, a family friend; Mom's sister Sarah; and her husband Jerry, who mostly sits in a chair. As usual, I'm staying in one of Grandpa's offices. A bookshelf covers one wall, and I looked through it for interesting books. (Grandma has allowed me to take some.) There are many neat books, but not very many books of the type I am interested in (math textbooks) and those are mostly pretty old and at the freshman level. I found the one that I remembered from before, the thin paperback version of Claude Shannon's A Mathematical Theory of Communication (?) and some other neat small books, but mostly nothing. So, they're probably at his office! I have asked to go there, but that won't be for another couple days.
Also, yesterday Mom spent all day making a wonderful dinner with two roast chickens, and then we found out that our neighbour's mother had died that day so we gave them some. Um. I hope nobody else dies this funeral.
